I really enjoyed Newcastle upon Tyne. the hotel was absolutely charming and great close to the city centre. the setting was great and brilliant, close enough to Grey Street bars, and the river and historical sites.

Really enjoyed its accommodating and decent staff.
It was reasonably priced. There were second to none staff and location for a such great stay on a business trip. Exceptionally comfortable beds for a good night sleep. The location itself was amazing, right at a 12th - century fortress. Lots of different pubs and bars to eat outside the hotel.

I thought the building was lovely and the rooms had been designed well to fit within it but best of all were your staff - charming, helpful and friendly from the receptionist to the lady waiting in the dining room at breakfast. They made me feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely stay again and recommend the hotel to others.
The front is a little off putting and the entrance round the back a little alarming at night for a single women travelling alone - its like going down a creepy alley!

Reception staff were very helpful. Good all round. Also, location is good, close to the station so good as a base.
Breakfast finishes at 9:30am on the dot; it should be made clear to guests that cooked breakfasts finish before that time and that breakfast cutlery, crockery, etc. will be put away by 9:30am sharp. This wasn't made very clear to us. TV set in my room (4) had to be switched on from the wall, no remote control Bathroom needs a coat of painting and some refurbishment Please put on mattress protectors; it's hygienic. Otherwise delightful.

The room was beautifully designed and reasonably spacious, with a comfy bed. It included amenities such as a TV, tea/coffee facilities, and an iron. The location was great, just a minute's walk from the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. Being close to a train station made traveling around really convenient.

The Surtees was very basic. The room was old but had been poorly upgraded. The linen was clean and the bathroom appeared clean although it did not smell completely fresh. There was heavy rain although it was warm so the windows had been left open. This resulted in the curtains being wet and a pool of water on the windowsill.Breakfast was inexpensive but of poor quality. Unfortunately on this stay there was no 'best'.

Efficient check in, friendly staff, clean room, excellent location.
Room was a little cramped for headroom (up in a corner of the roof) and the room itself was like an oven, even with the small window open.

Me and my partner stayed at Surtees hotel as it was our oe year anniversary. I booked it as a surprise for him in a deluxe room and what a surprise it was, it was amazing! To start off with, we had a lovely bottle of wine on the table for us with a note saying happy anniversary from Surtees Hotel team. The room was fantastic and the design was gorgeous! The bathroom was gorgeous although we had trouble starting the shower so we went to reception and said that we thought the shower wasn't working, a plumber came straight upstairs and showed us what was wrong/ how to work it, so all was fine. The bed was sooooo comfortable and had an amazing nights sleep! Although it was great being in the centre on Newcastle, it was quite load with ambulances going past and police sirens etc, was quite annoying. didnt loose any sleep over it but would of liked it a bit quiter, however great location to be able to get into town and back.Overall, fabulous weekend and will visit again soon.
